Catching the Newest Hairdressing Trends
published on 22 July 2011
coiffureSUISSE hair days is an annual event that brings international teams such as Toni & Guy from the UK, Laetitia Guenaou from France and Stephanie Kocielski from the USA to the Hallenstadium in Zurich to present the latest hair styles, cuts and colouring techniques on stage to a live audience.
René Wagner’s multi-talented team were the hairdressers I had been invited to photograph in action. René, whose Zurich salon “The Studio” is well known for its up-to-the-moment styles, is no stranger to hairdressing shows and on this occasion had been asked to put together an international team of hairdressers on behalf on KMS California.
His team was selected to present the top styles from each country on a wide variety of different hair lengths.
René asked me to catch the essence of the whole event from the pre-start discussions on what model would receive what look, to the cutting on stage, catwalk show and satisfied afterglow that follows such an endeavour.
Photographing such an event was pretty exciting as I’ve never been backstage on such an occasion. Unfortunately it poses a couple of challenges that I didn’t think of: apart from the constant buzz of people running around and the space constraints of the backstage environment, the lighting both backstage and on-stage were difficult and not easy to work with. Luckily my subjects, being mostly models, like to be in front of the camera and were happy to have me roaming around.
Here are a selection of the pictures I took that show how the day turned out.
